The Philippine Economic Society (PES) held its Regional Economic Conference at the Bicol University in Legazpi City, Albay last July 31, 2015. The theme of the conference, “Economic Welfare in the Midst of Climate Change: The Challenge of Governance”, aims to strengthen and inform the public and private sectors on the effects brought about by Climate Change to the economy and the community.
PES was represented by Dr. Jose Camacho, Dr.Majah-Leah Ravago and Dr. Ronald Mendoza. Bicol University was represented by the President, Dr. Arnulfo Mascarinas, and Dean of Colllege of Business and Economics, Dr. Eddie See. Director Agnes Espinosa, the OIC Regiional Director and Ms. Cynthia Berces, OIC Assistant Regional Director, attended as NEDA representatives.
Four plenary presentations were made during the conference. Dr. Ravago presented her paper on “Coping with Adverse Events: Farm, Country, and Climate Change” and Dr. Mendoza on “Reform Legacy of the Aquino Administration and the Challenges for the Next President”. Regional Director Espinosa presented the topic about “Bicol Regional Development Initiatives and Updates” and Dr. Mascarinas discussed “Value Chain Analysis of Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus) in Bicol Region”.
The conference was very well attended by students from the Bicol University, government stakeholders of the Bicol Region, and private sector representatives. The moderator of the presentations was Dr. Ramon De Leon, Faculty member of the College of Business Economics and Management of Bicol University.
